GOSSP: Are the Channels Crazy?

I will try to keep my rant as short as possible. Firstly, yes, TVKahani is totally against foreign content on our channels, but since it is happening it is our duty to discuss about it and not turn a blind eye.

Can anyone explain to me what the channels look at when they decide on which foreign shows to shove down our throats? Urdu1 in this race seems to know what’s right and what’s wrong. That channel, in my opinion, has yet to give a “pathetic” show. Everything it has aired has been watchable at least.

The channel has aired some tremendous Pakistani dramas as well including Sargoshi, Pat Jhar Kay Baad and Teri Raah… Additionally, its foreign content has also been top notch from Ek Hazaron Mein…. to Ishq e Mamnu to Fatmagul. The creatives there seem to know what would work and what wouldn’t. Barring the Spanish dramas everything seems to be tailor made for the Pakistani audiences.

However, on the other hand GEO and ARY [yes, it has jumped the bandwagon] seem to be making wrong decisions. Even Express Entertainment knows what’s right. The channel has Manahil aur Khalil and Hitler Didi that are entertaining and suit our viewers tastes.

On the other hand GEO is a sad case. It bought Noor, which just isn’t for our audiences. You watch the first few episodes and you know this one will not work. It might have been a huge success in the Middle East but our audience just doesn’t want this. Additionally, its array of Indian dramas is also pathetic. Zee TV’s Qabool Hai looks like a good choice on paper (Muslim setting) but the show is ‘ ek dam bland’. It has some good looking faces but they are hardly being concentrated on. Barring Baray Acchay Lagtay Hain… nothing  GEO is exciting among the foreign content it airs.

And now ARY seems to have made a terrible mistake. The channel is going to air a new soap (Mon-Fri, 9PM) that has just started on Colors. I can understand why ARY would want both the shows to go on air at the same time. But, how can the creatives be stupid enough to know if the show will be able to make a mark in Pakistan? Honestly, I have yet to see a single episode, but I just do not find the show interesting enough.  I don’t think it will be able to gather viewer’s attention ( I sincerely hope it does not).

Dramas like Anamika, Apna Pan, and Pavitra Rishta (it starts out well but loses steam) are not just for us. If all you channels can do is air foreign content then at least air good foreign content. Dramas like Amita ka Amit seem to be good.

P.S: We do not promote foreign content, but have a laugh at how little research the people sitting and making such decisions do.
